Medium: Skin Sewing, Beaded Jewlery, Fused GlassGwen Sargent, the daughter of Walter Sargent, an Alutiiq Native of Woody Island and the late Metha Hansen, is a talented Alutiiq artist. She works in several mediums, some of which include skin sewing, beaded jewelry, and fused glass pendants that incorporate Alutiiq petroglyph designs. |
|
Born and raised on Kodiak Island, Gwen spent her summers salmon tendering with her father. She finds inspiration for her artwork in both the beauty of coastal living and her Alutiiq heritage. She enjoys the solitude and balance that art provides, and is continually exploring new ways to incorporate elements of Alutiiq culture into her work. "I truly enjoy creating artwork that reflects my connection with the land and sea and my Alutiiq heritage." Her work is on display at the Alutiiq Museum and is available through her business Creative Native Art. |
