Contemporary Art

Reflections of the Season, oil on canvas, by Danielle Larsen, 2017. Purchased with the support of Rasmuson Foundation.

Recent Additions

In 2003, Alaska’s Rasmuson Foundation began providing grants to museums to collect the current works of Alaskan artists. Through this generous program, the Alutiiq Museum has received over $309,000 in grant funds, purchased 163 works for its permanent collection, and supported 46 artists. Click the titles below to see recently acquired pieces. The museum also accepts donations of artwork.

Propose a Work of Art

The Alutiiq Museum periodically purchases contemporary artwork for its collections. Grant funds from Rasmuson Foundation’s Alaska Art Fund make this possible. Please complete our Artwork Purchase Proposal form to propose a piece of artwork for our permanent collection. The museum also accepts gifts of contemporary art. For assistance with a proposal or a donation, contact Amanda Lancaster at 844-425-8844.

The Alaska Art Fund allows us to purchase works that meet these criteria:

  1. Made by an established artist,
  2. Made by an artist currently living in Alaska, and
  3. Created within the past five years.

Additionally, the Alutiiq Museum requires that all artwork added to its collections meet the guidelines established in its collections policy and its art acquisition standards.
